The story behind the name

Coral symbolizes warmth, protection, enthusiasm, and wisdom: all values I build my practice on.

In the Nigerian culture, coral beads are incredibly valuable, worn in jewelry during significant transitions and rites of passage. As a Nigerian-American psychiatrist, I want to help my patients, black women, feel connected to their ancestral strength and to support and care for them in ways similar to how my African culture cares for their women & new mothers.

A Message from the Founder, Dr. Jennifer Okwerekwu MD, MS

Welcome to Coral Psychiatry!

I founded this practice with a clear mission: to help women move beyond simply “managing” or “surviving” their day-to-day lives and instead empower them to truly thrive. As an integrative reproductive psychiatrist, I specialize in addressing the unique mental health needs of women during the most transformative stages of life—from menses to menopause.

The Coral Psychiatry approach is rooted in female-first care, which means putting you, your needs, and your wellness at the forefront of everything we do together. I believe that women deserve a special level of support during hormonally-driven transitions and reproductive challenges, whether it’s navigating menstrual-related symptoms, perinatal mental health, infertility, PCOS, or life transitions like perimenopause.

At Coral Psychiatry, our goal is to provide more than just treatment—we want to create a safe space where you can feel empowered to take charge of your mental health journey. Whether you’re seeking medication management, psychotherapy, or support for complex reproductive issues, you’ll find compassionate care that’s tailored specifically for you.

Thank you for trusting us with your care. We look forward to partnering with you on this journey toward wellness and thriving!
